“The Hunt”
According to the Doyle auction house, “…this is a hunting-themed tin circular rotating game from the early twentieth century. Six inches in diameter by 3 inches tall, the game comprises two painted tin disks, the inner disk with an illustration of a hunter shooting a rifle, the disk rotates with the help of a metal finial placed in the center, the outer disk has illustrations of various game, including a boar, a hare, a fox, a deer and an elk, each with different point values, all set on a round painted wood base.” Click here to see a photo of a display cabinet in Steve’s apartment. Steve’s Poker Spinnerette
Likely from the 1930s, this is a rotating game for ten people to play five-card poker. The game is eleven inches in diameter by 4 inches tall. Comprised of five rotating disks, each with playing card-illustrated rings, the disks are spun by a metal finial at the center of disks with a locking mechanism that stops the rings from spinning, effectively dealing ten hands. Given Steve’s love of playing cards, he must have treasured this game! You will see this game highlighted briefly in a short clip from in the documentary Six by Sondheim, see short clip below.
